Why You Want a Trained Professional to Perform Duct Sealing
Your home’s duct system is the single delivery method for the warm air to get to your living spaces. The average duct system has a lifespan of about 30 years, but that doesn’t mean it remains in pristine shape the entire time. Ductwork can corrode, become damaged or disconnect at the joints, and all this can add up to serious air loss inside your home. So what can you do to reduce or even eliminate the effects of faulty ductwork? Call the indoor air quality professionals at Air Services Unlimited and schedule an appointment for duct sealing in Vidor, TX.
What Is Duct Sealing?
First, let’s tell you what duct sealing isn’t: putting a piece of duct tape on your ductwork. Even though it may have the word “duct” in its name, duct tape is not effective for repairing faulty ductwork. What is effective is professional duct sealing. The process for professional duct sealing starts with a full inspection of your duct system so that the technician can assess the areas of damage. Once he/she determines what needs sealing, mastic, a fibrous adhesive, will be applied to the holes and cracks. A piece of fiberglass or foil tape is placed on top of the mastic, and then the technician moves on to the next problem area so that the mastic can harden into a seal. For sectional disconnections, the technician will apply mastic to both ends of the ductwork, put the ends together and wrap them with metal binding, and then secure the metal binding with sheet metal nails; the mastic will harden and form a seal between the sections.
